The Return of the Church to Exclusionary Policies

Several years ago I sat in the pew and endured a narrative regarding homosexuality in the church.  The narrative ended with this:

"You hypocrite!   First, take the beam out of your own eye, and then you will see clearly to remove the speck from your brother's eye."  Matthew 7:5

The minister skipped the next verse:   "Do not give dogs what is holy: do not throw your pearls before swine.  If you do, they may trample them under their feet, and then turn and tear you to pieces."

He experienced "Swofford Unleashed" in an e mail.  The question was a simple one.  What if there is a fourteen year old boy in the congregation who is being raped by his uncle and told it is "natural"...  and there is no need to feel shame?  You just sealed his fate.

Things shifted.  And the shift was necessary.

It has been a bizarre experience - the church which admonishes against heterosexual adultery but accepts sodomy. A church that moans about fornication and teen sex but welcomes lesbians and their closet of sex toys.  And no differently than the gravitational pull of black holes which can alter the gravity in neighboring galaxies, the black hole of  "inclusion" has altered the church in significant manner.  Not only are there gravitational disturbances, but the church has experienced a change in polarity.  We have turned our orientation away from the truth of Christ's words.

The LGBTQ (I always add R,S,T,U,V) community is really a powerful reversal-of-truth political action committee.  And the messaging is directed against Christian belief.  It is a collective aggression which targets the doctrine of sanctification.

We are afraid to be exclusionary. We are afraid to state that the individual, by their actions, exclude themselves from the Body of Christ.  Instead, we include.  We claim we understand, embrace, and love that which God hates.  Take a moment and digest the next thought:

It is also a form of self-abuse, a sin against the body,  to be a heroin addict.  We do not welcome the addict into the congregation to fill their veins with shit in front of the children. We have "standards", ya' know!

See how easily we have succumbed to the illogical narrative of LGBTQ?  We are somewhat like  night herons, who are unable to differentiate between a neighbor and a stranger within their flock.  And we no longer protect our nest and territory. We no longer maintain the standard deviation of two neck and beak lengths between the nest of the other and the nest of our faith. We have become patterned, programmable, and utterly devoid of conscience.

Do sinners belong at the foot of the Cross?  Absolutely. Should they also be seated in the pews on the Sabbath?  Yes. God's grace is readily available for the repentant. But it all begins with repentance and a turning away from that which displeases God.   Should those who sit in defiance of the tenets of faith  offer the sacrament of communion to others,  lead a weekly men's study, or teach our children?  Should they receive the honor of a captive audience?  What do you think?  Because it is also important that you engage criticism of your own opinions.  It is healthy.

Things shifted again:

I spent a season working with the younger children.   Last year,   we were in the narthex preparing the impressionable children to give  a living depiction of the history of the birth of Jesus.  All of the costumes were ready.  The children had rehearsed for weeks.  As we stood and awaited a commemoration of the holiest moment of our faith, a female children's worker prattled how she had made a video for her workplace about the history of the Pride movement.  The children listened attentively.  Guess who else listened?  smile

Senseless chicken.

I consider the word "inclusion" a direct attack on the Church of Jesus Christ.  It is this one word which has opened the gate to what is meant to be a safe pasture.  This safe pasture is called the Church. We are the Body of Christ.  The church is mean to be a place for Christians to practice their faith; and not incorporate the dark arts of a different form of faith.  Because in the truest sense, everyone worships.  Even the atheist worships at an altar devoid of a Savior.  He also bows in adoration.

"Inclusion" has turned the church into a marketplace of ideas where culture erodes Christian doctrine, children now face greater vulnerability for grooming and rape, and teens with emerging feelings of sexuality are confronted with confusion regarding their roles.  We are no longer the proverbial "wells of living water", but we have become wading pools of superficiality.

When I enter the church today, I miss the opportunity to enjoy a deep conversation with the Sheeple.  So it was a distinct pleasure to speak with the minister yesterday and tell him, "Obviously, you have read Emmanuel Kant. You referenced his thoughts in one of your sermon notes."  We then went on to talk about William Blake.

It is time for the church to return to the work of Jesus.  "Seeker friendly" has destroyed the church. The Mega church experience is just a personal ATM machine for predatory ministers.  Give me the small church;  the small church where Jesus remains central to the message.  Because every cell in my body cries out,  "I am a Christian."
