Commander in Chief: Grand Ayatollah Khamenei
Prophet Muhammad was actively engaged in nine ghazawat (plural of ghazwa). He headed up eighteen expeditions which did not involve a targeted battlespace, and dispatched around 55-60 additional expeditions. These were smaller configurations with smaller footprints who were traveling with an appointed leader, under delegated authority. These are known as the saraya of Prophet Muhammad. One of the most comprehensive books of Maghazi was written by Mohammad bin Ishaque.
It is a popular topic, and if memory serves me ISNA (Islamic Society of North America) had a session in Dallas several years ago addressing the topic of Prophet Muhammad as a General.
I find it interesting that a mosque in the United Kingdom chose the date of 9/11 for this information. Maybe they don't give a damn that 200 people jumped to their deaths from the windows of the Twin Towers on 9/11. It seems rather deliberate, doesn't it?
Regarding belief systems, in our arrogance we can forget that it doesn't matter what we think - even if our thoughts are cogent and logical in nature. What matters is what Islamic law states. Islam is state.
And while it is the task of the ethnographer to untie the cultural Gordian knot, it is the work of the military strategist to understand how the strategical considerations of the Grand Ayatollah will be determined should we attack Iran. He will make the final call on all decisions regarding acts of aggression against the state.
Already - we have made a grave miscalculation which has cost thousands of Iranians their lives. Because it doesn't matter if President Trump proclaims "help is on the way", or if that damn fool Reza Pahlavi sends citizens hurtling to their deaths when he declares on his X feed that Iran is free and he is now the leader of Iran. What matters, is that the Grand Ayatollah makes his decisions regarding domestic unrest as a prelude to war; how Islamic law postures against fomentation by outside interests to soften up the landscape for war.
So let's take a moment and discuss the aforementioned and go straight to Hadith:
"He who unsheaths his sword against us ceases to be one of us." (Muslim, on the authority of Salamah ibn al-Akwa)
The Muslim community are allowed to rise up against laws which violate Shari'ah. But in consonance with a strong principle that the Ummah are a strong, cemented structure, and a political stance of communal unity, no group of individuals can take it upon themselves to rebel against the state. We can loudly clap when we see hundreds of thousands on the streets. We are clapping for their deaths.
Obedience to the 'amr (commands) of the state is both civic and religious obligation. "Regime change" (our wet dream of a phrase) can only be accomplished by the Majlis ash-Shura. Lawful change occurs within the lawful parliamentary body of law. Everything is done by consultation of the elected representatives.
Our politicians closely watch the polls and speak out of both sides of their mouths to quell dissent. The Grand Ayatollah does not share the viewpoint. And as Commander in Chief he will send out his military, call up his Basij, and slaughter Iranians at will. Because the moment they engage rebellion there is no confusion regarding their actions. They are now enemies of the state and will be treated as combatants. This falls under the category of al-Haqq - or justice. The rebellious must be coerced, bent, and conformity to the will of the state is all that matters. And if that involves bending over that woman inside the Evin prison and shoving a broomstick up into her colon, leaving her to die on a cold floor with perforation, this is about restoring order and control to the state. (Yes, the aforementioned happened in a prior rebellion.)
Free speech is constrained by Ijtihad. You don' take it to the streets. This freedom is not absolute like it is in America. We can march about all day long with homemade signs and sloganeering. Eventually, we find ourselves safely tucked into our beds. Islam? You may not use your speech to incite rebellion or sedition against the state.
Qur'an 104:1 applies. "Woe to every fault-finding backbiter." It is not our job to stir up the Iranians to bite the ass of the Grand Ayatollah. He wears... the ring.
And as we call up our inner W. B Yeats, Slouching Towards Gomorrah, I want Americans to understand that while we are perfectly capable of turning Iran into a sea of glass, there should be no attempt on our part to foment domestic rebellion to soften up the landscape. Words are weapons. Let's stick to the the conventional weaponry.
More about the topic of the Grand Ayatollah a bit later. This Christian - keeps the Sabbath holy.
* Editorial note: I wrote this in streaming consciousness manner prior to morning walk and church. I did not change any thought, but cleaned up a couple of sentences around the edges for greater clarity. I am not the writer who agonizes over every word - rather, just sit down and write and post. Thanks.
