Removing NATO's Bracelet:  II

It is speculation.  But did Donald J Trump force Barron to wear shoes one-half size too small to force his will onto his son?

There is little doubt  President Trump is actively binding the feet of an exotic.  NATO is a collaborative intergovernmental military alliance which rose from the ashes of a war initiated against us by Japan, on behalf of Nazi Germany - whose soldiers always goose-stepped like their boots were a bit too tight.  America, has psychologically functioned as an Overlord of NATO because of our military strength and financial contributions.  But the relationship was always meant to be one of Overwatch.  It belongs to all members as equal stakeholders in the stewardship of the organization independent of land mass, financial contribution, and troop strength. There really is strength in numbers.

Things have quickly shifted from scenes of presidential bravado, to one where the Danish PM sends a strong rebuke to America.  It is quite the bitch slap... into the next county.  And ordinary citizens of Denmark flood the streets of Copenhagen to protest ceding Greenland to the United States.  We are made out to be bullies; and that is never a good optic.

On 14 January Denmark's Department of Defense announced a strengthened military presence in Greenland, and a small group of soldiers landed in Greenland... to drink coffee and try to stay warm. This is messaging; not warfighting.

Trying to snatch victory from the jaws of defeat, on 16 January White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt announced that the U.S. and Denmark have a established a "working group".  Within the corridors of international power and foreign policy this is akin to being asked to join the local PTA (parent teacher association) at your child's primary school. Denmark has stepped into their proper shoes.

The POTUS sought to wield the one tool which has served him well:  the force of his will.   But persuasion is superior to force because force is primitive.  It is necessary for survival, but it is one of the baser instincts.   Persuasion, is the evolution of force for the greater good.  President Trump seems  incapable of grasping this very important principle of conflict resolution.

Our POTUS does have a healthy war-fighting doctrine.  But it should not overwhelm our allies.  I am not sure who is part of the Benzene ring inside the current administration.  Secretary of State Marco Rubio,  Secretary of War Pete Hegseth, and  White House Deputy Chief of Staff, Stephen Miller are undoubtedly the three double carbon bonds.  As to who represents the additional three carbon atoms, is an unknown. But the combined conviction of our leadership who believe that acquisition of Greenland is a vital national security issue is a strong one.  Our bond of fidelity to NATO should be stronger.  To weaken NATO is to embolden Russia... China... Iran.

BRICS is maturing into an effective counterweight.  The coalition is steadily building their nuclear energy platform.  I am also watching the slow development of what might eventually be called LATO (Levant Alliance Treaty Organization).   These pressures are not to be feared, of course.  But the challenges must be met.  Removing the NATO bracelet, link-by-link, decreases our ability to effectively challenge within the foreign policy arena.  Not everything, can be reduced to military theory and contingency plans.

This is a Rolling Stones moment.  "You can't always get what you want. But if you try sometimes, you might find you get what you need."   May God Bless America.  And may God grant wisdom to our Commander-in-Chief.
