BBC:  Warlocks of the Black Arts

Darkness swallows.  Light penetrates.  Walk with me into the darkness and let it swallow us.

Prior to his seventieth birthday, the linguist Noam Chomsky began to imagine a new manner of communication which he called a "Minimalist Program".  He envisioned a universal grammar, a tool both simple and elegant, efficient regarding both sound and meaning.  The New York Times wished to honor him for his 70th birthday and sent Margalit Fox to interview him. With a master's degree in linguistics she was the perfect choice for this task.  Her  interview with Mr. Chomsky was published in December of 1998.

Essentially,  the Minimalist Program was a language capable of being understood by all. It was a linguistic construct which would bring clarity.  There would be no space given for misunderstanding.  Of course, it includes greater depth than what I just wrote.  But in my mind, what Noam Chomsky proposed  is merely a description of great journalism:  a communication tool which intuits at the highest levels;  a tool which both draws out of man and directs man toward the truth.  Journalism is meant to be a gold coin.  Not the copper penny hammered out on the railroad tracks by the five year old child who placed it there.

The BBC chose deception:

Our individual language usage interacts with the environment by which it is surrounded.  But for the journalist, language is meant to powerfully impact the surrounding environment in righteous manner.  What BBC chose to do is beyond disgusting.  They did not bring an argument which relied on an absence of evidence. They took their treachery further:  They took the evidence, took the truth, and converted it to a lie.  Digital sorcery was used to slaughter Truth with a poisonous brew.

This flagship program is flying the wrong flag.  It is the flag of the warlocks, the flag of those who swallow up the truth and in doing so, introduce us to the darkness.

BBC is controlled by warlocks of the black arts.  It is time their power be destroyed.  For the sake of Noam Chomsky.  And for the sake of the rest of us.  There is no place in journalism for falsehood.  No place in reporting for deliberate lies.  Journalism should be simple and elegant,  a social tool which communicates with honesty and the ink of truth.  I like to think that Noam Chomsky would agree.

The term "warlock" originates from Old English wærloga, meaning "oath-breaker" or "traitor," derived from wær (covenant, faith) and loga (liar, betrayer).
