From the Yazidi Women to the Women of Syria

The post on 9 November was an expression of grief for allowing a career terrorist to enter the White House.

This sense of grief has turned to the more deeply felt emotion of betrayal.   How could a wise man possibly utter the same words as our American President?  How could the humane man ignore the cries of the Syrian women and little girls?  It is all reduced to the past.  But it is also the present. And it will be the future.

"We've all had rough pasts."  President Donald J Trump

The echo of what happened to the Yazidi women in 2014  reached my ears in 2024 as Al Julani and his men advanced toward Damascus.  Beyond the headings, the execution of entire villages, throwing children off roofs, and merciless killing of the elderly, lies the greatest tragedy.  And it involves the women.  This cry,  still echoes  across the landscape of Syria today.

I have seen too much.  The Christian and Alawite women lined up and being photographed and a price placed on their heads for the sex trade.  The male members of the family have already perished.  Now it is their fate to suffer a future of rape, being passed from man to man, and then enduring the abortion of their fetus when they become pregnant.  When sufficiently battered, their price will be reduced to that of a couple of packs of cigarettes.  Then they will then be sold one more time - as domestic slaves.

Welcomed into the White House today - a cruel man.  A man who is practiced in the art of deceit. And a man who sleeps well at night.  That is the thought which should scare us. The man has no conscience.

I will not sleep well tonight.  A blasphemous man entered the White House.   He was affirmed.  A mockery was made of our Republic and our values.   And when men fail the women, the women become defenseless.

The flesh and the bones of the women of Syria will give witness against our leadership.
