GREENLAND


One of life's greatest tragedies is to give birth to ugly identical twins.  Full stop. Let me modify that statement.  One of life's greatest tragedies would be if Mary Anne MacLeod Trump had given birth to not one Donald J Trump, but two identical  Donald J Trump.   Talk about a weapon of mass destruction!

In all honesty, I voted for our POTUS and I still like him.  But regarding his fascination with Greenland, this should be another FULL STOP.    The whole things smacks of the film, "Dr. Strangelove".  And all that is really missing are the wind-up chattering dentures.

In the category of "You can't make this shit up",  we have the "twin that survived" demanding that Denmark cough up Greenland.   Shouldn't Trump just be asking for Burkina Faso?  According to the IMF, their GDP for 2025 was $26.8 billion.  The latest statistic from Greenland shows a paltry GDP of $4.04 billion.  Undoubtedly, there are vast untapped natural resources for the taking; and anything that glitters is always of interest to our American President.  But King Frederik X should tell him (in what is an appropriate analogy) to shove it where the sun don't shine.

Greenland must remain Greenland and under the dominion of Denmark for all of the right reasons.  Overtures and threats must be resisted not only by Denmark, but by nations of the West who provide a bulwark of unified consensus that this is a scandalous vision.  If nothing else, it violates guiding principles of sovereignty. 

My own reasoning is logical and not political.  If Donald J Trump is allowed this latest triumph,  it will Balkanize some of the most important community of traditions which set the West apart from the chaos of the Middle East and of Africa.  We do not cannibalize our neighbors. We are not predatory toward our allies.  And in a world with too many Hemeti, we need a few more leaders  who understand that what began with the Code of Hammurabi expanded to the wisdom crafted into the Treaty of Westphalia, and the later thoughts laid out by men such as Jean Jacques Rousseau and Bernard Williams, ladies like Martha Nussbaum, et al.  I doubt these compartments exist within Donald J Trump's brain because he is brushing up against long-standing normative frameworks which, in a delicate balancing act, maintain a homeostatic order for the West.  This allows for our traditions to remain.

The attempt to acquire Greenland is a Balkanizing action with long-term and scarcely understood ramifications.  This one action, must remain in the category of desired, but not attained.

Charlie Kirk Memorial: Live Blog: The Largest Church Service in Human History

Live Blogging:  Charlie Kirk Memorial Blackfoot is comfortably snoozing in a different time zone.  So I will go ahead and start the post.  Undoubtedly, when I return to the desktop, Blackfoot will have added a few thoughts and I will enter the arena again.
