Iran: Fireflies in Green Glass Bottles
Iran is preparing to bury their "martyrs" tomorrow. This action will rally the Shi'a who support the Grand Ayatollah and it strengthens his position.
As I move across multiple media feeds for Iran, it is akin to looking at fireflies in green glass bottles. On the one side, the men who are surrounding and beating up the Basij - who have received their call to duty from the local mosques. And others who are burning the mosques so they cannot be used as recruitment depots. Their lights are gradually dimming. But inside their bottles, they imagine the whole world is aware of them.
On the other side - the security apparatus which is steadily taking out the protesters at the knees and their lights are becoming a bit more visible. They want to be seen. And they want for fear to seep into the general population. They are not just taking out individuals, they are taking down networks. Chaos on the ground does not mean lack of control. In fact, chaos can be a means of control for the government of Tehran. Chaos profiles... chaos then stalks... and chaos then arrests. There is a cordon around the chaos. But the net has not dropped.
Rep. Claudia Tenney lights up a cigar and informs nobody in particular "Use whatever you have". Her cockiness is ridiculous. She serves on the House Select Committee for Intelligence. She should know better than to grandstand on X. There is another shade of green, an emerald green, that she may hope not to find on her doorstep. I am tracking for that signal tonight, and other faint signals that are out there floating about in the mist - and not the fog, of war.
