"Looks Like"  Kristi Noem Fired

I decided to write on my old site today.  There is still sporadic readership.

Early this a.m. a headline announced that Kristi Noem was relieved of responsibility for managing ICE and Border Patrol activities in Minnesota and they would now be managed by Tom Homan. The news is moving almost too quickly for me to follow. It now appears activities of the federal agents will cease for the moment and Minnesota will be allowed time to return to calm and societal homeostasis.  This is a wise move.

We cannot become Kent State - by increments.  Americans will note tolerate the death of protesters nor for that matter, those who protest with a Constitutional right to bear arms.  Neither right can be abridged.

Is it wise to protest bearing arms?  I wouldn't do it.  Alex Perreti chose to do so.  But it is my personal belief  that more than a few "Cowboys" are on the streets.  How many veterans trained for a combat environment have been improperly vetted to join ICE operations?  Training for war is much different than training for police procedural actions and administrative duties.  Not every veteran is qualified to be a police officer; and it would be unwise to assume that a seamless crossover is possible without the recruit moving through the complete training program required for all new officers.  Neither is every veteran qualified to be a federal agent.  Training platforms are very different and mission specific.  It is very possible that vetting and training was subjugated to expediency - an important word which has a history of creating problems.

Minneapolis is not Afghanistan.  And the chaos engulfing the streets of Minneapolis is best dealt with using a pull back order and reassessment, debriefing, and return to best practices.

Added to post @ 14:20:  My governor speaks.  Recalibrate is a good word.

ICE is now a toxic brand.  The optics have been bad on the streets of Minneapolis. To see ICE in full combat gear and carrying the long guns causes fear and not respect.  And to have the head of DHS blatantly lie about Alex Peretti brandishing a weapon destroys confidence.  Lies always destroy confidence.  The truth is preferable.
