President Trump:  "Just Don't...."

Targeting ISIS in Nigeria is one thing. Fomenting greater disaster for the protesters in Tehran is entirely another thing.  With his remarks, President Trump is picking a dog up by the ears.  But in this case, it is the Iranian civilians who will be bitten.

If you meddle in a domestic dispute, outcomes can be poor.  (Proverbs 26:17) This is a domestic dispute, generated by the Ahl al Bayt with the finest of traditions which date back to the Battle of Karbala.  This will end, just as badly.  Spin it as you like - there will be no glorious moment of triumph.

It is already over. The fire-starters  (undoubtedly) are  already being shipped to Evin prison, and the crackdown will shatter families.  To stand on the shoulders of the victims by sparking hope with "locked and loaded" statements from our President is bullshit.  We forget about Mahsa Amina who was killed inside a police station for not wearing the veil.  She was beaten to death.  And most will not know the name of the young lady who during the last major protest was taken to Evin Prison, had a broom stick shoved into her colon so that it would perforate, and was then left on a cement floor to die an agonizing death.  Iran can never have a "Velvet Revolution",  because in Tehran, there is a always a fist inside an iron glove.

We have a POTUS who is known to hug our flag when on the campaign trail, and who is appreciated regarding his admiration for our U.S. Constitution.  But I doubt he has read the Constitution of the Islamic Republic of Iran.   The Constitution does not allow for any foreign military to be housed on sovereign soil. And their Reserve military component?  The Basij get their marching orders from the mosque in times of crisis.  So while we are protected by Posse Comitatus, there is not a conceptual arch in play for the Shi'a population which protect them from their religious clerics,  police, security sector, or uniformed military.

Everything cannot be reduced to an economic model - which seems the favored negotiating skill set of President Trump.  Wall Street is no match for the Shi'a Wall. Of that I am sure.  And political theater and the usual backroom arm-twisting will not determine what happens next over the next few days  in Iran.  The outcome is already determined.  Prisons will bulge at the seams, faces will be missing at the dinner table, and once again, the Iranians will be taught just the latest lesson regarding the omnipotence of the Grand Ayatollah chain of command.  Because when mystical shakes hands with power, the fusion of the natural with the supernatural can create an impenetrable political fortress.

* Journalist note:  I have observed a highly secretive religious rite, and can attest to the fact that supernatural events do exist.  A guarantee of confidentiality remains in place for my allowance to peek  behind the curtain.  I believe there is our world, as we know it.  And then there are paranormal and parallel universe which exist on (and beyond) the periphery of our finite perception.
