The Net has Dropped
As noted in a prior blog, the net has now dropped and those who protested in Iran will now be ensnared within the court system.

I am familiar with the four Sunni jurisprudential schools; but do not have a lot of familiarity with how the Shi'a run their court systems. There will be similarities.

I continue to maintain my posture that there should be no formal declaration coming from our government which would extend hope to the protesters. I am familiar with the terrain of the mind held by some of Islam's brightest jurisprudential lights... and throw in a terrorist or two. As a journalist, I have had conversations that most of you will never have, nor scarcely understand. This is not mentioned with arrogance; rather with continued gratitude extended to a handful of influential men who allowed me to explore their belief system with care and confidentiality. And loving gratitude to the women who allowed me to see what it is like to be a Muslim woman in a social construct which is based on a dominant patriarchal rule over all aspects of a woman's life from birth until death.
Islam views the use of force against a civilian population not just from the dark side of the moon. It is a complex and foreign galaxy of thought which laughs at and is not afraid to challenge and confront Enlightenment and Western traditions. There is a reason they call themselves "Believers".
Walking within the Ummah community for two decades is vastly different than observing the Ummah from a cubicle in Tyson's Corner. I have walked in the midst of this community and my hand has dipped in the same communal plate to consistently discuss the hard-line issues which plague Islam. There have been pivotal moments where my own blood has run cold.
The streets of Iran will be emptied of protesters. The prison population will swell. Wisdom beyond that which is my small portion - is required.
