AG Ken Paxton: A Stab in the Dark
The official press release is a synoptic info-mercial which provides introduction to the lawsuit. Because I love you (smile) and love our Republic of which you are a part, let me focus on the lawsuit and the conceptual arch used against Al-Ikhwan. The document represents a legal point of ingress against future operations of the Muslim Brotherhood on U.S. soil. It is a tool. A starting point. But the document exhibits a flawed understanding of the Brotherhood, including a lack of strategic depth regarding operational considerations and timelines in the West.
I was a bit less measured, in what I wrote on my other blog site - noting that, "These guys wouldn't recognize a member of the Muslim Brotherhood if they walked in on them sleeping with their wives...."
So let's get started. Strap in for the ride.

"The Muslim Brotherhood is a radical terrorist organization...." (p 1)
Not exactly. The Muslim Brotherhood is a governing body substrate which functions with para-parliamentary power until it imprints firmly over an existing form of governance. It is not even a political organ; that thought would be an insult to senior leadership. But in the West, the Brotherhood is a network which is highly organized and disciplined within the ranks.
"CAIR's co-founders... maintaining a front organization.... The federal court found there was 'ample evidence' to establish the association of CAIR with Hamas. (p 1-2)
Islam - for its part - strengthens based on a seventh century tactical doctrine of confederacy. And while CAIR functions as a front for Hamas - and a means of money laundering - CAIR is not the Muslim Brotherhood shell company or front office. There is no need for this, because once again, the Brotherhood is a vast, transnational network. So if there is a subpoena to be delivered, there is not a door to knock on; but there might be a knock on an individual's door.
"The organization is quietly building an underground network across the state...." (p 3)
Present tense doesn't work for me. By 1988 the network was firmly established across Canada and the United States, including in Texas. And it is not underground, since some of it is topside with members of the network having held strategically sensitive positions and appointments on a national level.
"Defendant, the Muslim Brotherhood, is an unincorporated transient, transnational organization..." (4)
There is nothing transient about the Brotherhood. But after the initial statement we are seeing the knocks on the individual doors in what follows in the document.
Moving to page 6 and Section IV: Facts - there is a re-hash of history. I must mention one item on page 22 and set the record straight:
"On May 3, 2015 two men inspired by ISIS conducted an attack at the Curtis Culwell Center in Garland, Texas."
It should read that two men inspired by an F.B.I. agent who led them around by the nose and told them to "Tear up Texas" showed up at the aforementioned event which I was also attending as an invited member of the press corps. They were drawn into a kill box and quickly dispatched to hell. The agent on the outside made his home movies, and the agent on the inside took mental notes and has disappeared down another rabbit hole. But I am still pissed off about that totally unnecessary Jihadabad sting. We were all punked on that night; including having to hang around until midnight waiting for F.B.I. agents to hand out the affidavits we had to sign off on. Good time had by all!
Jumping to page 32 - there is no true "solicitation" rather it is by "invitation only" into these ranks. Only twice in my journalism career has a member of this network allowed anything to slip regarding operational aspects on U.S. soil. As stated - they aren't wearing signs. But they probably do signals.
One deficit in the document is that there is not even a scant mention of the name Qutb. His book "Milestones" is a classic regarding ideology for the Brotherhood, and a template for action.
I enjoyed reading the lawsuit. But it is a stab in the dark.
Enough - for today.
