Trump's Army of Midgets

When I churned out a weekly column for Turkey Tribune, I wrote an article about Donald J Trump during his first campaign for the presidency.  The editor had a great sense of humor and included an image of Donald J Trump gripping a large black Bible the size of a ten pound rump roast.  It did not offend me and certainly brought a smile to my face.

I am thankful they did not choose this meme:

This ridiculous image from naughty, conniving lil' Nick brought the first smile to my face today because it reminded me of Trump's calculated moment holding up a Bible in front of St John's Parish Church.  Unfortunately, Trump's army of Christian midgets continue to make normal Christians (like me) look like inbred idiots.

I grew up within the camp of the prophets during the years of the vibrant Charismatic movement. My father was highly intelligent and analytical.  These qualities caused him to examine all aspects of the church and harvest the good, discarding the rest.  For him, these were threshing floor experiences of removing the chaff from the wheat.  The Church was sacred to my father and he had great love for the "Body of Christ".  But he understood the pitfalls and abuses attached to the prophetic gift.

Within this camp:  truth and dishonesty... excessive zeal ... remarkable insights undoubtedly inspired by the Spirit of God... hits and misses.  When there was a miss, here is my favorite comment to friends:

"Put a monkey on a stool with a banana behind a partition and let's see what the prophet says about what is hidden from view."

The prophetic is one of the gifts within the church which has tremendous potential for both good but also for abuse.  But President Trump wearing a white suit (evangelist attire) and handing out Bibles is a bit over the top.  It will appeal to people who have viewed the video below.  It remains one of my favorites, and I just revisited it.

I did not vote for Donald J Trump so that he could hand out Bibles.  I did vote for him because I thought he would be a great Commander-in-Chief.
