DHS:  A Nation Insecure

There is an assumption that a thorough field investigation also quietly vetted Bryon Noem prior to Kristi Noem receiving her appointment to head the Department of Homeland Security.  A spouse actively participating in a porn cross-dressing fetish site presents unique vulnerabilities and opportunities for blackmail.

And then we have the convoluted story of Katie Zacharia.  Corey Lewandowski has been problematic for years.  But then again, perhaps he is a polished and proficient political blackmailer - hence his own ability to bounce back from all personal scandals.

But Kristi Noem?  She needs to go home  and she needs to stay home.  How can she present the best interests of our Republic when the individuals seated across from her are scrolling through their phones looking at the images her husband has downloaded to a fetish porn site?  This is beyond a distraction.  It is a damn embarrasment.

On small scale, we should tire of the "Bold and the Beautiful" look which seems the primary prerequisite for  receiving a job offer, whether it be heading up DHS, or as an official spokesperson.  Charisma and MAGA beauty fakery seem to rule the day.  In a not too distant past, our best and brightest journalists dominated the major regional, national and international markets.  They made it to the top of the summit due to their skill and professional expertise.

Barbara Walters was intelligent, poised, and well-groomed.  She was certainly not beautiful.  But she was a consummate professional.  Correspondent Dan Rather was well-known in Texas prior to making it to a national desk.  His one big slip-up was a report on George W Bush which caused him to lose the CBS evening news anchor desk in 2005; and it was followed with his departure from CBS in 2006.  The journalism was shoddy for that particular documentary.  But I am still a bit saddened that such a long and storied career came to such an abrupt end.

But on larger scale - how secure are our secrets and how much of our sensitive information has made it to the dark web because of pillow talk between spouses and their side-hustle lovers?  How much have we lost because of a patronage system which values loyalty over national security?

If Bryon Noem was actively involved in porn fetishes prior to Mrs. Noem's appointment at DHS, this is a failure of the F.B.I. to properly vet the close relatives of a candidate competing  for such a sensitive position.

It is hoped that Kristi Noem retains the best and most cunning of divorce lawyers.  But it would also be beneficial that she no longer have a role in leading or constructing U.S. policy endeavors.  Those Double G breasts of her husband could obscure the view of Mount Rushmore.  And no - we do not need President Trump to join Washington, Jefferson, Lincoln, and Roosevelt on the wall of remembrance.
