Committing adultery with a Chinese spy did not provide Eric Swalwell with cause to reflect nor choose a course correction.

My father taught me that our first sin, is always against God. And then we sin against our fellow man.
The Ten Commandments provide a safety net for society. The "Thou shalt nots" have validity. It brings societal health when we honor our parents... do not lie... do not commit theft. And it allows for family health when a man does not poach another man's wife; nor a woman poach another woman's husband.
The Ten Commandments are a reminder that we have boundaries within civilized society. Boundaries require respect for the other. But boundaries also require self-respect. And a powerful man who rapes and humiliates a drunk staffer cannot look in the mirror and respect himself. Unless, of course, he is a sociopath.
"She deserved it. She was inebriated."
Since when, would any consider the punishment for inebriation to be rape? My sixth grade son once ate a whole, large Texas watermelon while I was at work. Should he have suffered rape for food intoxication? He was not punished at all; in spite of the fact that I had spent all day at work thinking about having a slice of cold watermelon on arrival home. What about chain smokers. Is the punishment rape? Or is it simply that rape is the punishment which faces women who working in close proximity to powerful politicians inside the Beltway? Not to be obtuse - there a male staffers who have probably also suffered sexual assault.
Rape is a crime of control, power, and humiliation. Eric Swalwell is a predator; and predators are generally cowards who seek out opportunities against the weak. Such men - must be dealt with swiftly for the safety of greater society.
Isn't it time that as Americans we return to a healthy concept of boundaries, and... discreet cough... an understanding that what displeases God is wrapped up in a very small word? Sin.
