Nasire Best

A paranoid schizophrenic left with reliance on his imagination for survival.  And another reckless action spurred by mental illness.

Nasire Best thought he was Jesus Christ.  This is classic delusion with religious overtones.  As a nursing student, I did a clinical rotation on the locked unit at Parkland Memorial Hospital.  The nurses station had bulletproof glass. Our guests really were quite dangerous.   I came across a client who told me, "You can call me 'God' or you can call me 'pickle'."   The latter was more appropriate; albeit we could not get the right pickling combination to control his delusions and racing thoughts.  Later, working in a locked psychiatric unit, I care for the Virgin Mary. sigh

I provided nursing support for a Goddess who called herself "Fire Starter".  She would start imaginary fires and  stamp them out with her foot.  She was a benevolent supernatural being.

Although the majority of my career was spent within intensive, critical care environments - I worked at two different psychiatric facilities to better understand the human condition.  My favorite story?  A man was brought in on a bench warrant.  He had called the police regarding suspicious activity across from his apartment.  Too many people were performing surveillance on him.  When law enforcement arrived, the man had rifles aimed out of every window.  His surveillance team in play?  Clueless citizens coming and going from the funeral home next door.  He was hauled in, dosed up, and probably released back into society.  

Nasire Best had a fixation.  This was not really about our current POTUS. But it is about his mental illness.  His behavior would likely have been the same with any prior American President; albeit the first clinical signs of his illness most likely emerged when he was 17-18 years of age.  There is a small comfort.  At least his fixation and fascination was with our President,  and not toddlers on a play date.  They do not merit a Secret Service detail.
