"TREASON"

If you took the advice of a snake charmer against the advice of your Vice President, the Director of the C.I.A. (and God knows how many other alphabet agencies), and your Secretary of State, you need to make confession to "We the People".

Your arrogance has humbled America. And we are becoming economically poorer for the experience.  Oh - not you.  Not you and the swinging dicks of Wall Street. Not you - nor your best buddies who profit from chaos.  I speak of the middle and lower class Americans who are about to see their wallets hammered into the dust.

If you ignored the noble career, rank and viewpoint of the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, General "Razin" Caine, you have proven yourself an idiot regarding the consequences of military adventurism. Iraq and Afghanistan should have taught us that lesson. You have ignored basic cartography, history, Islamic literature and how it fuels ambition.  Certainly, you are not a student of Persian literature and probably cannot correctly pronounce the name  Abu al-Qasim Firdawsi nor have you acquainted yourself with  his marvelous work, Shahnameh:  The Book of Kings.

If you ignored the concerns of NATO and Gulf Allies - you have lacked discernment. You don't drift your way into the truth, you discern your way to the truth.  That truth was there and bundled up into the intellect of the many - and not the few. You discounted the mature thoughts of others.

You might be unfamiliar with  Cairo Trilogy by a real Nobel Prize winner, Naquib Mahfooz, and also "The Yacoubian Building" by Alaa al-Aswani.  These selections, along with "The Lawful and the Prohibited" by Sheikh Al-Qaradawi,  aid in understanding the Egyptian terrain of the mind.  The Hashemite Kingdom?  They have their authors too.  Saudi Arabia?  They join the pack. And each one, has their history.

So in looking at what the snake charmer accomplished, it is apparent that a robust meeting of the minds from our military community was discounted.  But perhaps more importantly - our diplomatic community, who tend to be educated, well-read and with more than enough time spent living a fusion experience as American ethnographers with deep cultural understanding -were also neglected. Pushed aside.  Discounted at a fire sale.

It was full speed ahead... into nothingness.  And that nothingness is the empty plate of options which we are now facing. We don't even have two beans for a three bean salad.

So if the treason card is played against journalists professionally employed and busy with networking, word crafting and reports out -  what hope is there for me? I am the journalist who applied for a White House Press card, because it was encouraged when 47 entered office.  I am the nobody who never received a response.  So as "that person" - let me pose a few important questions.  And let's see if the very insolent action of even asking questions also qualifies as treason.

Treason question number one:

Is it possible that with our complete alienation of Iran, we are left with a strengthened China? Might we lose Taiwan?  Gulp.

Treason question number two:

Can Iran be trusted with a nuclear program which serves as a means to usher them into the highly regulated and sophisticated nuclear club? By joining a greater and more modern world, can the onus of responsibility to safeguard these assets actually produce a more careful and reticent Iranian state?  It has happened with India.  And Pakistan have proven themselves capable of managing the nuclear options on their table without harming the greater world.

Treason question number three:

If we collaborate with Iran on the development of their program - which is possibly already at the finish line - can we anticipate a gentlemen's agreement - which exists with all other nuclear-capable nations? We worried about nuclear blackmail when Russia entered Ukraine.  Guess what? They didn't launch.  Every one of us know that for any nation to launch a missile with a nuclear warhead is to assure mutual destruction.

Treason question number four:

Is Iran a stable and modern enough  nation to even consider questions 1-3?  Or are they merely "lunatics"? Obviously, I am not talking about the Congo...  Eritrea... or Chad - harboring nuclear ambitions.  They are too unstable.  And they are certainly too poor to manage anything but a basic mustard gas.  wink

It is the job of the journalist to ocassionally make a readership uncomfortable; to make you squirm in your seat.  I am still waiting for my White House Press Credentials.  Either that - or a polite knock on my door.  wink

Recommended film version of "The Yacoubian Building".  It does not stray far from the novel. And the acting and cinematography is excellent!
