Iran Prepares for Further Hostilities

Because of the shelling of the southern suburb of Beirut, Iran states they are preparing a response. Sources state this will be a wide-ranging response which will include multiple targets.

The advisor to the Leader of the Islamic Revolution states   " A miscalculation in Beirut has ended the phase of patience."  And preparations are underway for a response.

Iran has closed its airspace and  Tasnim News reports that all flights are canceled in western Iran.  If true, it is possible that missile launches are being activated.  Tehran has made it very, very clear that for any negotiation to proceed, Lebanon must be treated as a proxy of Iranian power.

About an hour ago, I stated to my husband "A Memorandum of Understanding" is less than a "Memorandum of Agreement" - and it is certainly not worth much.  It is important not to confuse "understanding" with "agreement".  The MOU (Memorandum of Undestanding) is the paint-by-number which precedes the MOA (Memorandum of Agreement).  It provides a political pathway... a framework. It fixes points of commonality and suggests that more vigorous negotiations might be engaged at a later date.

Agreements address: Guarantees, mutual commitments, implementation processes and oversight and verification.

Meanwhile, Iran informs that service fees collected for passage on the Strait of Hormuz will be compliant with International Law.  But Iran rebuffs President Trump's latest "news" that the Strait will soon be open for business.

So whilst Pakistan's PM announces a "peace deal" has been reached and the signing will by in Switzerland on 19 June -  I do not remain hopeful.
