The Pentagon's Order of the Dumb Fucks

I am not sure who had this bright idea.  But  ever since Kingsley Wilson was appointed as the Department of War Press Secretary,  nothing really surprises me.  She is frighteningly bad at her job. Maybe she and the "Missus" (Hegseth) concocted the faith list during a Bible Study after 24 hours of prayer-and-fasting. But as a follower of Jesus Christ, I was astounded regarding the deliberate omission of the Mormon faith.  Spiteful behavior does not work for me.

It was always an honor to walk into the lobby of Bethesda Naval Hospital when on active duty orders. There was a beautiful glass display case which reminded us  that Chaplains from the Christian, Judaic and Islamic traditions were available to military members in time of crisis.  And this pastoral care extended beyond the brick-and-mortar and marched into the operational field right along with us.

As a Protestant, I hold a fond  memory of attending a Catholic service offered by the priest.  Funny story, but true.  There was no communion offered.  Some enterprising individual had stolen the bottles of wine.  Me?  I always assumed that the Catholic Chaplain drank it.  wink

Now, everybody knows that the military loves acronyms.  It was like learning a foreign language. What the hell was HumInt... PSYOP... and my favorite:  GMT  or General Mandatory Training.  I always referred to it as "General Mundane Training".   The majority of it was an insult to my intelligence. And it was death by PowerPoint delivered with a bored monotone pitch.  But can we really reduce faith to a list or a simple code?

Bottom line?  Good order and discipline supports cohesion and camaraderie within the ranks.  And no more than I want a Muslim who has taken the oath to suffer under the wrath of a Christian who has taken the oath, do I want that Muslim or that Christian to gang up on the "dirty Jew" in uniform.  Our oath is meant to be an equalizing force which reminds us that first and foremost, we are Americans.  And with issues of faith - it should remain within the private corners of our hearts with allowances for expressive function inside the walls of our houses of worship.

In an attempt to come off as the Knights of Templar,  we now have the Order of Dumb Fucks - the small thinkers who focus on minor processes as opposed to major operational considerations.

As for me - this is one of my favorite videos of worship in a field setting because I received operational training at Camp Pendleton.

This is acceptable worship for the Christian community.   And may the Mormon community also respond with the distinct joy which is a hallmark of the Christian faith.  Please enjoy the video!
