Tyler Robinson:  God's Law

 

Registered nurses and police officers.  Nobody wants us on a jury.  We swing in favor of the victim and can be hard on crime.   But the trial verdict for the man who assassinated Charlie Kirk should be simple enough for members of my faith.  Tyler Robinson violated God's law.  He must be put to death.

I don't base this belief on the Ten Commandments.  My belief pre-dates Moses and stretches back into the mists of history to pull Noah into the mix.

"And for your lifeblood I will surely demand an accounting.  I will demand an accounting from every animal...."  Genesis 9:5 (NIV)

Did you catch that?  There is a reason when a lion becomes a "man-eater" it is hunted and suffers a loss of life.  They are beautiful beasts. It should be a moment which brings reflection.  A dog who kills a human is denied his life.  This should bring a bit of introspection.

So when a man is reduced to an insensible vicious animal and seeks to deprive another man of his life, it is time for God's Law.  This exists for societal health.  The back story (a sad childhood, mental illness, drug addiction, hunger) are not part of the equation.  God does not ask the lion nor does He ask the dog. His command does not come with a menu of options - which of course, would be counter-intuitive.

But God asks us.  He asks us to stand on behalf of the deceased and render verdict.

"Whoever sheds human blood, by humans shall their blood be shed; for in the image of God has God made mankind." Genesis 9:6 

Tyler Robinson falls in the category of "the sooner the better".  May the jury and judge respond with the clarity of thought which is the benchmark of reasonable men.

I would have never read Alexander Solzhenitsyn's "Gulag Archipelago" if he had been assassinated for his political thoughts at thirty-one years of age.
