France's Leadership Pay for Their Sins
I have been invited to join a select group which will meet with a senior planner from our city to discuss improvements for our neighborhood. Our meetings will take place over several weeks. City futurists will then embark on choosing which recommendations merit greater consideration.
Tonight as I sit at my desk, my city is at peace. The darkness is punctuated with the occasional bark of a neighborhood dog; and earlier, the sounds of children playing. There is no violence. No looting. No defacing of our city monuments or parks. My city - does a fairly good job of listening to, and acting upon the concerns of the population. I am blessed to live here.
France's leadership are paying for their sins. And that greatest sin is the neglect of their own generational citizens with favoritism shown toward the non-citizens. The slightly lesser sin is to ignore the concerns of their population. And the most profoundly stupid of their sins is to ignore the emotional pulse coursing through the veins of their citizens for many months now. The manageable "lub dub" of a normal heartbeat now has the cadence of strident war.
Iran, of course, has the best videos of the massive looting which is now underway in France. I am viewing remarkably sad footage.
It was also perhaps unwise of President Macron to remark the government would pay for the losses incurred by the shopkeepers. That was a green light to continue the looting.
Paris is starting to look like a city of shards of glass and twisted metal. Human tornadoes perform one function. And human volcanoes also have their marching orders. If you cannot break it, then just burn it. Nothing is being spared - whether it is high-end fashion or produce at the local grocery store. Bipedal, wild animals are roaming the streets. And in their wake - a tremendous loss of goodwill toward the government, probably greater than the loss of tourism.
