Ketabchi

* What I am reading tonight.  But my thoughts really take me to October 7th.

For the first time, a name emerges from the closed manufacturing rooms to the forefront of the Ministry of Defense: Mehrdad Akhlaghi Ketabchi.

He is not a commander seen in the front rows, nor a face habitually chased by cameras. He is of that type known by his impact, not his image: a shadow man who spent his years within the aerospace industries system, from the lowest rungs of management to the presidency of the organization in 2014, and afterward at the heart of the defense industries. His name appeared early in sanctions lists, as president of the Shahid Bagheri Industrial Group, then in European Union documents as a manager in defense and aerospace industries, with his date of birth listed there as September 10, 1958. As for his image, it remained rare. In the circulating narrative, he is likened to those the Mossad's hand has not reached: a name that circulates in rooms, not streets, and a survival told without details. The documented reality is simpler and heavier: the former Defense Minister Aziz Nasirzadeh was killed in American-Israeli strikes late February 2026, and the ministry remained without a permanent minister until Masoud Pezeshkian sent Akhlaghi's name to Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf on Mehr 13, 1405 (October 5, 2026) to seek the parliament's confidence. The one now presented is not a general who orates from a podium, but an engineer of a missiles and drones system who remained behind the wall for decades. The confidence session is anticipated on Mehr 26. And until the vote is decided, the name remains as it was long known: present in the files, absent from the image.
