Persecution of the Christian Faith
I follow what does not make the headlines - the rampant persecution against Christians and symbols and relics of our faith.
In September, the desecration of a Catholic cemetery in Maizieres-les-Metz. You cannot kill what is risen.
At our prior church we had a tradition. Members would call their friends early in the morning to awaken them on Easter. "He is risen!" The response was, "He is risen, indeed!" It was a beautiful remembrance of our risen Lord.
Azerbaijan has systematically destroyed dozens of Armenian monasteries beginning in the prior century and into the first decade of the 21st century. Satellite imagery confirms the complete destruction of 108 monasteries over about a fourteen year period. I viewed a video of a man blasting away with an automatic weapon at symbols of the Cross as part of a beautiful column. What exactly, does he hope to accomplish!
Jesus. A sign spoken against. (Luke chapter 2)
Nigeria takes the brunt of the Muslim bigotry and hatred directed against Christians. Sudan, has calmed a bit regarding persecution. I am grateful!
Canada has experienced arson at dozens of churches. The news is scuttled to the back pages. We refuse to address root cause analysis.
