Russia Offers up a Parting Gift of the Plague...

to forty-five nations.

What a bunch of assholes.

Sure.  Chelyabinsk is 1,736 miles from Irkutsk.  I get it.

But I also remember how a man boarded a flight from Liberia, landed in Dallas, and brought the gift of Ebola to our city.  He arrived asymptomatic and died four days later.  But not before managing to infect nurses in Dallas and turn our hospitals into war zones with triage tents set up in the parking lots. I still remember some of the conversations we had as nurses, when realizing that nurses in our region contracted Ebola from this Patient Zero.

The Soviet Union also gave us Chernobyl:

And in trying to convince the world that the Anthrax they released into the wind was attributable to God - you know like the gastroentestinal anthrax which killed the animals in the days of Egypt and Moses - they continued to show themselves cavalier regarding their chem-bio stockpiles and how they manage them.

Of course, when the Soviet Union collapsed, our American scientists lost sleep over the thought of chimera organisms. (The Soviet Biopreparat Program)

And we all remember the Salisbury incident with the nerve agent  Novichok - an intentional attack.

But for now - let's hope none of the happy campers in Chelyabinsk have come into contact with the pneumonic plague.  Because a lab tech who broke a tube containing live cultures of Yersinia Pestis was then allowed to take a little road trip with her fellow (low I.Q.) scientists instead of landing in immediate quarantine to be properly monitored.   Like untreated venereal disease, Yersinia Pestis is the gift that keeps giving - except in this case, it is the critter that quickly overwhelms and kills the host.

Why were there 200 contacts identified?  Immediately being placed in quarantine would have provided for zero contacts.  The correct answer is "zero contacts".
